Bender - a city in Transnistria, a port on the Dniester River, located in the south-east of Moldova on the right bank of the Dniester River. The first written mention - October 8, 1408. Earlier names - Tyagyanyakyacha (up to 1460, in translation from the Tatar "Tyagyankyach" means - "free pass"), Tighina (up to 1538), from the Tatar word meaning "prince", Bender (until 1918), from the Persian word "harbor, marina", Tighina (until 1940), Bender (until 1941), Tighina (until 1944).
Attractions - Museum of Local History (1914), the Turkish fortress (XVI century), Transfiguration Cathedral (the beginning of XIX century), the building of the Auditorium - the center of cultural life of the city (1902).
