A small historical reference

Khankendi - a town in Nagorno-Karabakh, located in the south-west of Azerbaijan, in the valley of the river Karkarchay. It originated from the Armenian Vararakn settlement that existed from the end of V century on the site of the modern Stepanakert. Earlier names - Vararakn (up to 1847), Khankendi (until 1923).
