A small historical reference

Alaverdi - a town in the Lori region, located in the north of Armenia, on the slopes of the river Debed. The first written mention - III century BC. Previous name - Manes (until 1935). From the XIII century - the place of mining and production of copper. In 1770, it moved here a group of Greek miners, which builds and Shamlugh Alaverdi copper smelter.

Attractions - Medieval bridge (1195), the Church of St. Gregory Narekatsi, near the city are - the monasteries in Sanahin, Haghpat, Akhtala, Horakerte, Ardvi and Odzun temple. In Alaverdi born politician Anastas Mikoyan and his brother, the famous Soviet aircraft designer Artem Mikoyan.
