A small historical reference
Priekule - a city in the province Priekulsky republic located in the west of Latvia. The first written mention - 1483 god.V historical annals Priekule first mentioned in 1483, when local land was given possession of the Baron Korf. Corfu Palace lived up to our days, and now there is a school. Preserved and built in 1699 the Swedish Gate, the image of which is used on the coat of arms of the city from the very moment Priekule received city rights. Swedish Gate Priekule recognized as a national monument of architecture.
The main development of the city had the opening in 1871 the railway line Liepaja - Vilnius.
