A small historical reference
Vagharshapat (Echmiadzin) - a town in the Armavir region of Armenia, located in the Ararat plain in the central part of the republics, near the border with Turkey, 30 km west of the capital - the city of Yerevan. Date of establishment - II century BC. Earlier names - Vardkesavan (up to 114 years), Vagharshapat (until 1945), Echmiadzin (until 1992). The city was the main spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the residence of the Catholicos of All Armenians.
